Every year, I work through Christmas so I can take Easter off to go camping with my church (well, actually there are about 5 churches who go). I would go camping every weekend if I could, and this is as close to the real thing that most of my friends do - we stay in tents on a school field about 45 minutes away from PE. There are hot showers, but we cook on gas or fire! I love it every year, even when the boys leave frogs in our tent and we only discover them the next morning! (This is not a problem for me as I love frogs but my tent-mates have a major phobia of these cute little guys...)<BR/>Easter 2007 was a very special year in particular. I have always used my second name (Fiona) as I absolutely hated my first name, but God had been doing a lot of work in my life leading up to that time and during a time of ministry at camp we really felt that He was telling me that I needed to start using my first name, as a symbol of the work He is doing in my life. Ever since then I have been Varla... It was weird for us all while we got used to it, but now some people don't even know that I was called Fiona for so many years!Dory_42https://www.blogger.com/profile/01573841485705009850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2470879226303295078.post-16928625443220795082008-11-29T08:26:00.000+08:002008-11-29T08:26:00.000+08:00My favorite Christmas tradition has been the grown...My favorite Christmas tradition has been the grown-up stockings that my siblings & parents exchange after the little kids have all opened their gifts & are busy in another room or in bed on Christmas night. I went downstairs and the tree was ablaze with twinkling lights and a huge pile of toys were under the tree. The tree had a toy train village around it and the creche with the Holy Family, baby Jesus, and the sheep, cattle, camels and a donkey surrounding it. When I got older I wondered how they managed to set that all up without making any noise. My father worked for the railroad and money was scarce; my mother told me much later that her mother always gave her the money to buy gifts for the children. When you are a child sometimes the excitment was so intense.Claudiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02714440790407126206noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2470879226303295078.post-32353807046796951452008-11-28T18:53:00.000+08:002008-11-28T18:53:00.000+08:00A crackling fire, family, and friends...these are ...A crackling fire, family, and friends...these are a few of my favorite things. We have a cosy day in, slobbing around and watching crap on TV. Mum is always happy and she gets squiffy on champagne as soon as she gets up. It's the only day of the year that she really lets her hair down, drinks and eats what she wants and smiles all day. AND I always get loads of left-over turkey. Thank you by the way for your post about me. It is so hard to choose. Every country (there were 14 of them) was different and, in their own way, special. But then coming home to a familiar bed and being able to wander around my own home in bare feet and a dressing gown was pretty good too.Leehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11236459315155380910noreply@blogger.com
